9 Benefits Of Binaural Beats (Sleep, Focus, Meditation)

Binaural beats were originally discovered in 1839 by physicist Heinrich Wilhelm Dove. The main concept behind isochronic tones and brainwave entrainment methods in general is the ability to change your dominant brainwave frequency and guide your brain to a preferred or optimum mental state. When you mediate, your brainwaves drop down into a low frequency state known as Theta.

Deep meditation produces theta waves, which are slower and lower frequency (between 5-8 hertz) than Alpha waves. I have had many subjective, anecdotal success stories fed back to me over the years advocating the use of binaural beats, and we have read some here on this thread.

It will be a soothing melody or the sounds of nature — this music helps to relax and immerse in a state of consciousness suitable for meditation. I hope I've persuaded you to give brainwave entrainment technology a try. There are five main categories of brainwave frequencies: Gamma (40Hz+), Beta (13 - 40Hz), Alpha (7 - 13Hz), Theta (4 - 7Hz), and Delta (<4Hz).

Also of interest, phase locking in the alpha band has been associated with lower cortical arousal in general (Fink and Neubauer, 2006 ) and enhanced top-down control in creativity-related performance Meditation in particular (von Stein and Sarnthein, 2000 ; Fink et al., 2009 ). Especially divergent thinking seems to be associated with alpha wave synchronization (Fink et al., 2006 , 2009 ). It could therefore be reasoned that inducing a state of lower cortical arousal by presenting people with alpha frequency binaural beats temporarily increases their performance on a divergent thinking task.

The fact is that in nature pure binaural beats do not occur. Brainwave entrainment may be achieved when audio signals are introduced to the brain causing a response directly related to the frequency of the signal introduced, called binaural beats. There are 5 different brainwave states that a person can be in at any given time.
